House of Cards Project

House of Cards: Properties of Paint is a visual exploration that connects the behavior of paint to the structure of typography. Each card focuses on a specific paint property such as texture, flow, density, or layering and pairs it with a typographic feature that reflects the same visual idea. These pairings create clear and intentional relationships between how paint behaves and how letterforms are shaped.

The project reflects my personal creative interests and design voice. Painting plays a major role in my work, including my small business, MadeByMia, where I create and sell original artwork. This influence guided the overall theme and visual direction of the cards, allowing the designs to feel expressive and authentic while remaining cohesive as a system.

The final designs use organic, abstract textures alongside clean typographic elements. An intentional monochrome palette emphasizes form, contrast, and movement without the distraction of color. This approach highlights both the expressive qualities of the painted marks and the structural anatomy of the typography on each card.

Together, the cards form a unified visual system that bridges expressive mark making with typographic precision. The collection celebrates the shared visual language between painting and type while showcasing a balance between organic form and structured design.
